WHO WE ARE The Twin City Cruisers car club was formed in early 1992. The premise of the club is the restoration, preservation, and enjoyment of antique, classic, and special interest vehicles. The club is organized as a non-profit corporation under the State of Illinois. We seek to foster both enjoyment and education of the general public on the car collecting hobby via club sponsored events and activities. We also desire to promote a safe, respectable image of the old car hobby through quality activities and a quality membership. We currently have many active members, the majority of which live in the Bloomington-Normal area.
Cruise In's Our club sponsors and coordinates monthly from April through October located at the Towanda Plaza Shopping Center (1210 Towanda Ave.) in Bloomington. The size, and accessibility of this location is outstanding, resulting in considerable "walk-through" foot traffic from people eating out or just driving by as well as accommodating a large number of cars for showing. Two exceptional restaurants is also a major draw. Music is provided each month by a disc jockey hired by the club which provides a great atmosphere for people to come and enjoy the activities. Door prizes donated from local businesses are awarded throughout the evening. Each Cruise-In is heavily promoted by the Twin City Cruisers and features a specific theme to generate additional interest and participation. Our Cruise-Ins will generally draw 200-300 classic cars along with large crowds of spectators. June of 2014 saw a record of approx. 400 vehicles! Trophies are awarded at each Cruise-In to the top three vote getters (participant voting) in that evenings particular theme category. Occasionally a "Club" trophy is awarded based on member preferences.
Special Events The Twin City Cruisers participate in numerous special events. These have included the local Christmas parade, Scott Sensing's Cruise for the fight against Multiple Sclerosis and many other events in which we have been asked to display our cars. Also, once a month the club votes and picks a local event to cruise to. We usually meet at a predetermined location and cruise together to the event in one large group.
Community Activity The Twin City Cruisers are active in many local charitable activities. This includes the donation of funds to local as well as national charities. Many club members also volunteer to display their vehicles at local activities such as class reunions and promotional activities of various commercial businesses. We also participate in local community events, parades, exhibitions, etc. whenever possible. The Board of Directors of the Twin City Cruisers is very proud of the growth and notoriety of the club in it's 32 years of existence. Our events rank among the best in the state for participation, and word of mouth advertising has become our major asset. As the club grows, our visibility within the community continues to increase as well. The club receives many requests to participate in or make appearances at many events in Central Illinois. This has a positive benefit to our membership, business sponsors, civic organizations, and the community at large.
